5 Facts We Bet You Didn’t Know About Mike White
Kristi Scales gave us a must-read breakdown on the fifth round draft pick, Mike White. But here are 5 more facts about him you absolutely need to know!
He’s only the 6th quarterback to be drafted in the Jerry Jones era. Others include: Troy Aikman, Bill Musgrave, Quincy Carter, Stephen McGee, and Dak Prescott.
An MLB Prospect?
White was a standout pitcher in high school and had fastballs clocked in the 90s and was even a prospect to play MLB but he decided to stick with football. Why did he choose football you ask? According to Gentry Estes of the Louisville Courier Journal, White said “I don’t know if you’ve ever gotten the pleasure of throwing a touchdown pass, but nothing beats it. You can go out there and throw all these strikeouts you want. It’s fun and all, but when you throw that touchdown pass, you fall in love with it. You want to keep repeating that feeling for the rest of your life.”
Sorry ladies, according to his twitter page, White recently got engaged to his girlfriend. The two also have an adorable puppy named Cooper!
Rare Company and High Expectations
White is only the second Western Kentucky QB to be drafted in the NFL. The first was Brad Doughty who was drafted in the seventh round by the Miami Dolphins in the 2016 draft. White had the unenviable task of following up Doughty and responded strongly, leading an offensive attack that led the team in points per game (45.5) and was No. 3 in passing efficiency (174.87), No. 5 in total offense (523.1) and No. 5 in passing offense (336.8).
A Floridia Native & Hometown Hero
White was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and attended NSU University School. As quarterback, he led the school to a 13-0 record and a 3A Florida State title.
