Sunshine State Standout
Coming out of Pasco High School and two back-to-back undefeated seasons which resulted in Sunshine Athletic Conference titles, Joey was a three-star prospect and highly sought after defensive lineman. He was ranked #22 as a strong-side defensive end and ranked as the #52 ranked player coming out of Florida.

Motivation Behind It All
The oldest of five siblings, Joey always shouldered a lot when it came to his family. This was never more clear than when the Ivie family suffered the sudden loss of their only daughter, 17-year-old Jordan, who passed away in a tragic car accident in 2015. Joey took that pain of losing his sister and turned it into motivation to continue to make her proud. “Oh man, if only she was here,” Ivie said to media after the draft. “But I know she’s looking down and I know she’s happy and smiling. I know she’s a Cowboy up in heaven.”

A Real Solid Pick

Playing on one of the most talented and deepest defensive lines in college football, Joey’s best season came his senior year when he played in 11 games (after missing two because of a broken thumb) and totaled 26 tackles (3.5 for loss), 2.5 sacks, 7 quarterback hurries, a blocked kick, and a forced fumble.

In Rod We Trust

While flying under the radar for the majority of his collegiate career, it’s no surprise that many of #CowboysNation might not be familiar with the defensive tackle. However, Joey, his family, and those from UF aren’t the only ones excited about the pick. Coach Rod Marinelli fought hard in the war room to select the former Gator – and if we know anything about Coach, he knows what he’s doing with “underrated” defensive players.

Continuing the University of Florida Legacy

Joey is the 14th draft pick hailing from the University of Florida but is actually the first defender drafted from the school since Godfrey Miles in 1991.
