Cowboys & DCC Fuel Up in Frisco
The Cowboys have been busy “fueling up” Frisco ISD health and wellness programs!
Recently, America’s Sweethearts stopped by Pink Elementary’s “Healthapalooza”. As a special treat at the health fair, fifty students and their parents enjoyed Zumba from the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. The moves challenged both the young, and the young at heart, and brought out fans of both genders and all ages. It was great to see moms, dads, and teachers laughing and dancing beside the kids.
Afterward, the gym opened and DCC signed autographs for the hundreds in attendance at the health fair.
Last Friday, 5th graders at Shawnee Trail Elementary in Frisco enjoyed a fun Dallas Cowboys assembly. Cowboys defensive tackle Tyrone Crawford spent the morning with the 5th grade class. Shawnee Trail won the visit for their dedication to Fuel Up to Play 60.
To kick things off, Tyrone gave the kids advice on healthy eating and activity. He talked about his childhood and how eating breakfast improved his focus. The kids then had a chance to ask questions. The questions ranged from the best part of playing defense to Tyrone’s favorite elementary school memory.
After hearing Tyrone’s hilarious responses, it was time to get moving.
Students rotated through four stations, focused on NFL Flag skills and healthy eating. At the flag stations, the students learned basic offensive and defensive skills. The nutrition stations taught the five food groups using the USDA’s MyPlate.
These assemblies reinforce the benefits of building healthy habits. Healthy habits have benefits at home and at school. Research shows that good food and active bodies is the perfect recipe for healthy kids. Healthier kids are better learners in the classroom. That’s a win-win!
